FUCK OFF is a show by artists who have created work that is in retaliation to abuse. These are victims of domestic abuse, violence as sex workers, witnessing toxic relationships and are expressing anger, hurt and also strength from overcoming the trauma from these situations.
Often during assault and abuse, victims have to be polite and complacent to avoid aggravating the abuser, this is a survival tactic, to remain complacent to keep or gain a level of respect from the abuser as result of fear of further violence.
Art has been a way to express reactions that we survivors wish we could’ve had, or to expose the realities of being a victim of abuse.
Despite the use of the word victim in this text, this exhibition is entirely to celebrate survivors, and the fighters who have felt safe enough to retaliate. We are celebrating strength and promoting strength in minority groups and this exhibition is to show hope to current victims.
This is a space where you can happily express how you wished you were able to react to abuse without judgement or consequences.
FUCK OFF will take place at Limbo Limbo in Peckham on Valentines Day, 14th February.
